WINE CELLARS AND RACKS

A 1920's-vintage house in Houston actually has a small cellar where the furnace originally resided.  When the house was remodeled, the cellar was redone as a wine cellar, with interesting masonry and woodwork to make it look like a medieval winery cellar.  The owner needed custom racks to store his growing wine collection.  He sketched out a few designs, and in consultation with him CONSTRUCTIVITY developed the final designs based on specific measurements of the cellar and case and bottle sizes.

THE RACKS -- CONSTRUCTIVITY built a total of six separate racks for the cellar.  Three racks had slanted shelves to add some visual interest and to hold more bottles, two had space at the bottom to hold full boxes and crates, and one was fitted into an antique fireplace mantle.  All rack shelves can hold either regular or larger size bottles.

Note the small rack flanking the mantle rack -- these have not yet been stained, but will match the other racks when finished.

A CELLAR LIGHT  -- The owner had a small antique stained glass piece that he thought would be interesting to incorporate into the cellar somehow.  Using a few leftover hand-carved moldings from the cellar installation, CONSTRUCTIVITY created a stained oak light fixture for the ceiling.  The colored stained glass creates a pleasant glow in the cellar, without being too bright, and sets a relaxing mood for those special wine selection and tasting events.  Here we see its magical effects -- the owner and a guest enjoying their libations in the cellar!  Bacchus would approve!
