?  THE "RASPBERRY HOUSE" >

A COMPLETE

PERIOD VICTORIAN RESTORATION

AND

RENOVATION

This house was built in 1884, during the Victorian period.  While not a "high" Victorian, it had many nice features, both inside and outside.  It sits on a beautiful large corner lot, on a slight hill.  Unfortunately the house had not been taken care of, and was in rough shape both inside and outside.  And not only that, but at some point in the 60s the original porch detail was removed, and it was enclosed, complete with aluminum storm windows.  The objective was to restore and renovate, and to make it even more beautiful and functional for a modern family a hundred years on.  Exterior, porch, kitchen, bathrooms, family room, bedrooms, period curved staircase, and landscaping all had to be dealt with.

In the 1950s the house still looked much as it did when it was built in 1884. The original porch was there, and it had been fairly well-taken care of it's first 70 or 80 years, with only three layers of paint (initially a yellowish putty color, then white).

By the early 80s the owners had deferred maintenance for 20 years (except for the porch), and it was in really rough shape.  Wood gutters were rotting and leaking, clapboard was rotting, ugly paint was peeling, bushes overgrown.  And the grafted-on enclosed porch was really ugly.

First major work was replacing clapboard all over, stripping all moldings and trim down to bare wood, and replacing wood gutters.
